Description; Oil on canvas. In contemporary frame. Herbert A. Morgan Sr. was born in 1857. He studied at the l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Gerome. He is credited with being the best draughtsman in Gerome’s class. He exhibited at the National Academy and with the Society of American Artists in New York City and at the Chicago Art Institute. He was an instructor at the Art Student’s League and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was also a member of the Salmagundi Club in New York City. His son, Herbert Augustus Morgan was also a very accomplished American artist and exhibited at the Whitney Museum. From the estate of the artist.
