Description; Oil on canvas. In contemporary frame. Herbert A. Morgan was born in 1857 and studied at the l’Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Gerome from 1880-1887. He exhibited at the National Academy and with the society of American Arts and at the Chicago Art Institute. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club. He taught at the Arts Students League and Metropolitan Museum of Art. He was a close friend of Carrol Beckwith. His son, Herbert Augustus Morgan Jr. was also a well known American painter.
